The Maputo Development Corridor is a made up of a
series of projects to upgrade the infrastructure of the transport route from
Gauteng, passing though the Lowveld, to Maputo. The projects centre on four
major elements - the road, the railway line, the border post, and the port of
Maputo. The Corridor is one of the biggest development projects in Africa, and
will serve, it is hoped, to strengthen trade ties between South Africa and
Mozambique. The project is also likely to encourage investment into the
region.
